Matt was born in Tyler, TX, and grew up in San Antonio. He is a constitutional attorney, college professor of American history and government, and public speaker on America's Founding Fathers. He is also a Vice President for Vista Bank.

Matt is in the midst of his fifth term in the Texas state legislature. He represents District 93 in Tarrant County and his district includes parts of Fort Worth and Arlington. Matt is the Chairman of the General Investing Committee, and he also serves on the Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence and the Culture, Recreation, and Tourism Committees. He is also proud to be the past-Chairman of the Texas Legislative Tourism Caucus – a bi-cameral, bi-partisan caucus that seeks to advocate and promote the tourism industry here in the Lone Star State.

Matt and his wife, Jennie, reside in the Fort Worth area with their five children: Jeremiah, Hannah Sue, James, Gracie, and Ruthie.
