Is it even possible to form a lasting human government?
In Federalist #1 – the essays written to support passage of the Constitution, Alexander Hamilton wrote that this experiment in liberty would “…decide the important question, whether societies of men are really capable or not of establishing good government from reflection and choice, or whether they are forever destined to depend for their political constitutions on accident and force.”
The Founders knew the history of mankind – a long train of wars, poverty and oppression—often inflicted upon people—by their own rulers.
America’s birth itself was set in motion as a reaction against the abuses of their own king, King George of Great Britain
Their Declaration of Independence – explicitly recognized – there are laws that transcend human laws, they called them the laws of nature, and nature’s God.
And they went on to say in those memorable words: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
America’s Founders said we have unalienable rights – rights no man can take away because they come from God Himself. So what happens when the State becomes hostile to the idea of God? Pretty simple: The men in power, become gods.
In a very real sense the future of liberty – in America and the world is dependent on God’s people sharing the Gospel and studying the Biblical wisdom God gave us enabling our spiritual freedom – to blossom in civil freedom, as well.
