Cosmetic Surgeries Among Millennials

By: Anita Roman – – February 3, 2019

Trends come and go, and they say looks fade, but one generation is making a bigger effort that others to change that.

“Yeah the millennials are more into coming in for skin care treatments,” said Dr. Margaret Husami with Derma Health Skin and Laser.

Millennials are defined as individuals born between 1982 and 2004. Dr. Margaret Husami of Derma Health Skin and Laser says skin care treatments are a growing trend among that age group.

“Things like hydro facial is really popular, micro needling with peels to go after the skin tone and texture and acne scaring things like that that will give them more of a glow,” said Dr. Husami.

A new survey conducted on behalf of RealSelf by The Harris Poll, reveals 82 percent of U.S. adults plan to make changes related to their personal well-being and/or appearance in 2019. 53 percent of millennials are considering at least one nonsurgical cosmetic treatment in the next 12 months, which is significantly higher than other age groups.

“They want to keep their youthful, you know the youthfulness there to stay rather than having to correct as they get older,” said Dr. Husami.

According to Dr. Husami, social media heavily influences how millennials want to look.

“Instagram is a big part of their culture, they’re taking multiple selfies and evaluating themselves in these pictures all the time,” said Dr. Husami. “This generation is often times excited about what the celebrities are doing and want to experience the same things.”

And whether it’s baby Botox or a facial, Dr. Husami strongly believes an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, or at least it will keep the wrinkles away longer.
