Republicans have always known the attacks against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh were a sham from the word “go,” and with the FBI investigation out of the way, it’s now time to vote.
That’s what Mitch McConnell has said, and is sticking by, despite the claims from Democrats that the FBI investigation was an incomplete farce over accusations that the White House tied the FBI’s hands in interviewing all the witnesses who had suddenly come forward to attest to the claims against Kavanaugh.
There’s no telling how long interviewing every witness that came out of the woodwork would have taken, but McConnell had had enough. The FBI investigation, as well as the six prior investigations, had never generated any results that put Kavanaugh anywhere near the times and places his accusers vaguely claimed he was.
During a press conference, McConnell told reporters that he knows two things for sure. One, that the FBI investigation has yielded whatever results were going to be yielded, and two, no matter if the FBI had checked every lead in the world, the Democrats still would not have been satisfied.
“What we know for sure is the FBI report did not corroborate any of the allegations against judge Kavanaugh,” said McConnell.
“The second thing we know for sure is that there’s no way anything we did would satisfy the Democrats,” he added. “They’ve always got a reason the goalposts need to be moved farther down the field.”

A truer statement was never spoken. As was indicated very clearly from the beginning, and reiterated by people like Cory Booker, it was never about Kavanaugh’s guilt or innocence, it was about keeping a constitutionalist out of the highest court in the land.
So with the sexual assault claims coming up short, they moved to his drinking. Then it was about him throwing ice at a bar. Then it was about his temperament. Having all of those overcome, the Democrats would have come up with something else to shade Kavanaugh’s demonstrably sterling character.
McConnell is right to push the vote. At this time, the Republican votes are there and there are reports that some Democrats will also vote in favor of Kavanaugh. After all of the nonsense this nation, and more importantly Brett Kavanaugh, have been put through, it’s time to end this circus, deny the Democrats any further attempts at ginning up new ways to delay the vote, and fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court.
And the man for that job is definitely Brett Kavanaugh.
