Merrill Matthews, Ph.D., is a resident scholar with the Institute for Policy Innovation, a research-based, public policy “think tank.” He is a health policy expert and weekly contributor at Forbes.com. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the Texas Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
Dr. Matthews is a past president of the Health Economics Roundtable for the National Association for Business Economics, the largest trade association of business economists. Dr. Matthews also served for 10 years as the medical ethicist for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center’s Institutional Review Board for Human Experimentation, and has contributed chapters to several books, including Physician Assisted Suicide: Expanding the Debate and The 21st Century Health Care Leader and, in 2009, Stop Paying the Crooks (on Medicare fraud).
He has been published in numerous journals and newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal, Investor’s Business Daily, Barron’s, USA Today, Forbes magazine and the Washington Times. He was an award-winning political analyst for the USA Radio Network.
Dr. Matthews received his Ph.D. in Humanities from the University of Texas.

Lathan Watts is Director of Public Affairs for First Liberty Institute, responsible for all efforts to increase First Liberty Institute’s profile in local and national markets. His focus is on expanding public awareness of First Liberty’s mission, legal matters, and educational projects by coordinating communication with community leaders, influencers, policy makers, and the public at large.

State Representative Matt Shaheen serves the citizens of District 66, which encompasses West Plano and far North Dallas. Previously, Mr. Shaheen served five years on the Collin County Commissioners Court. Representative Shaheen serves on the Government Transparency & Operation, and the International Trade & Intergovernmental Affairs Committees. Representative Shaheen is consistently ranked among the top most conservative, pro-business legislators in Texas. Matt has been married for 24 years and has three children. He attends Prestonwood Baptist Church and serves as a Deacon, an usher and on the church's pregnancy center board.

Matt is a producer, writer, and director who began his career working on music videos in the late 1990s. This led to producing the live-to-tape concert series of the widely popular United We Funk All-Stars, hosted by nationally renowned radio personality Tom Joyner. He produced the award-winning inspirational film No Greater Love, which was released by Lionsgate worldwide. Other than THE MAN FROM NOWHERE, Matt also has two feature films in pre-production: RECKONING, a faith-based western, and the suspense film THE LADY IN THE TUNNEL. With a BA in Business and an MA in Communication, he oversees the Cinema & Digital Arts emphasis at a liberal arts university in Los Angeles, where he has overseen the first practical media arts degree online in the country.
