Christian Classical Education
Patrick Henry College recently brought more honor to the exciting renewal of classical education nationwide.

Not only has the small liberal arts school in Purcellville, Virginia, won nine of the last twelve American Moot Court Association National Championships, but PHC just received international accolades as the first place winner in the 2016 Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition in Geneva, Switzerland. As such, the debate team of rising juniors, William Bock and Helaina Hirsch, demonstrated the enduring legacy of the classical rhetoric tradition, even over the likes of Yale, Duke, and the University of Virginia.
Political Narratives
From terrorism to police violence, politicians and journalists feel compelled to make every fact serve a larger narrative. The most exhausting thing about our politics these days — other than the never-ending presidential election itself — is the obsession with “shaping the narrative.” By that I mean the effort to connect the dots between a selective number of facts and statistics to support one storyline about the state of the union. Narrative-building is essential for almost every complicated argument because it’s the only way to get our pattern-seeking brains to discount contradictory facts and data. Trial lawyers understand this implicitly. Get the jury to buy the story, and they’ll do the heavy lifting of arranging the facts in just the right way.
Internet Future Could Be in Hillary’s Hands
Will the Internet soon be surrendered to freedom’s enemies?

It comes down to Hillary Clinton.

If she agrees with Donald Trump that it shouldn’t happen now, Congress can yet block Barack Obama from giving up America’s control over critical Internet functions. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is trying to pass a short-term funding bill before this Saturday’s start of the government’s new fiscal year.

But, since Mr. Trump opposes surrendering the Internet, the Senate’s Democrats say they will block any continuing resolution that forbids this act of unilateral disarmament.

If, however, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton says she wants to decide whether this is a wise step, a sufficient number of her party’s senators will surely support her, and not President Obama.

If she declines, however, then Hillary — not just Obama — will be responsible for the serious damage done to our national security and freedoms.
