A president worthy of his office and this nation’s traditions would stay in Afghanistan until we can bring all our people home.

For 20 years, some of us have been countering that you can’t defeat the enemy without understanding that they are the enemy, and what they believe.

The American-nurtured Afghan military of the last 20 years that had suffered thousands of prior casualties evaporated in a few hours in the encirclement of Kabul.

There are an estimated 10,000–15,000 Americans in Afghanistan now who need to be evacuated as the Taliban seize control of the country.

Tragedy is an inadequate word to describe what’s happening in Afghanistan. President Joe Biden’s administration’s feckless, vacillating incompetence is a catastrophe.

Almost 20 years of American involvement in Afghanistan have ended in unmitigated disaster. In fact, it would be difficult to imagine a worse scenario.

Leaving to put ‘America First’ or staying to protect Afghan human rights would be defensible. Leaving while pretending to care about those rights is not.
