He has a master's degree in history from the University of Oregon, as well as undergraduate degrees emphasizing counseling and pastoral studies. He has written over a dozen books, including Not a Tame Lion: The Spiritual Legacy of C.S. Lewis, The Prayers of Jane Austen, 25 Keys to Life-Changing Prayer, Bible Basics for Everyone, and others. He works to advance the approach and principles of the NAE document, “For the Health of the Nation.” Before joining the NAE staff, Carey was a longtime employee of World Relief, the relief and development arm of the NAE, serving in Croatia, Mozambique, Kenya, Indonesia and Burundi. He received an M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a Doctor of Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary.
