The Lies We Believe about God: Knowing God for Who He Really Is
Without even realizing it, many people believe lies about God, such as:

“God’s love must be earned.”
“God has lost control of everything.”
“God gives us everything we want in life.”

In The Lies We Believe about God, psychologist Chris Thurman explores the influences that affect everyone’s view of God, the cost of not knowing God for who He really is, and how knowing God more intimately can bring greater meaning and joy to life.

This engaging, biblically rooted book calls readers to see the truth of who God is—truth that can set them free to enjoy a deeper relationship with Him.

Kenneth Barnes Show Page
Kenneth Barnes, PhD
Author | Educator | International Businessman - Ridley Theological College | Gordon-Conwell Theologial Seminary
For nearly thirty years, Dr. Ken Barnes has combined a career in international business with life as a theological scholar and bi-vocational pastor in both the U.S. and U.K., where he holds dual citizenship. He most recently served as Dean of the Marketplace Institute at Ridley Theological College in Melbourne, Australia and Associate Director of the Entrepreneurial Leadership Initiative at Oxford University’s Centre for Christianity and Culture. Currently the Mockler-Phillips Chair in Workplace Theology and Business Ethics at Gordon-Conwell Theologial Seminary, Dr. Barnes also teaches theology and religious studies at Oxford University’s Department of Continuing Education and taught at Oxford’s Saïd Business School in their M.B.A. program.
His new book, 'Redeeming Capitalism' is based upon a very popular and regularly oversubscribed course that he teaches at Oxford, entitled: “More Money Than God, Wealth, Virtue and the Redemption of Post-modern Capitalism”.
Redeeming Capitalism
For good or ill, the capitalism we have is the capitalism we have chosen, says Kenneth Barnes. Capitalism works, and the challenge before us is not to change its structure but to address the moral vacuum at the core of its current practice.

In Redeeming Capitalism Barnes explores the history and workings of this sometimes-brutal economic system. He investigates the effects of postmodernism and unpacks biblical-theological teachings on work and wealth. Proposing virtuous choices as a way out of such pitfalls as the recent global financial crisis, Barnes envisions a more just and flourishing capitalism for the good of all.
