Coach Joe Kennedy is former head coach for the junior varsity football team at Bremerton High School in Washington. After watching the film “Facing the Giants,” Coach Kennedy made a personal commitment to thank God for his players after every game. Since his first football game in 2008, Coach Kennedy walked to the 50 yard line after games, took a knee, and prayed. In fall 2015, the school district ordered him to stop praying, or he would be disciplined. Choosing to stay faithful to his commitment to God, Coach Kennedy continued to pray, leading the school district to suspend and later fire him, ending his coaching career. Now, Coach Kennedy is fighting to get his job back. First Liberty Institute filed a lawsuit on his behalf so he can continue coaching with his constitutional rights intact. All Coach Kennedy seeks is the ability to offer a brief, private prayer at the 50-yard line after the game.
