Brent McCorkle is a versatile film maker — director, screenwriter, editor, composer, and producer — renowned for his emotionally resonant and visually captivating storytelling. His collaboration with the Erwin Brothers started with Woodlawn (2015), a sports drama based on the true story of Tony Nathan, the first Black football star at Alabama’s Woodlawn High School during its desegregation in 1973. Directed by the Erwin Brothers and starring Caleb Castille, Sean Astin, and Jon Voight, Woodlawn featured McCorkle as co-editor and co-composer. Their partnership continued with the 2018 hit I Can Only Imagine. He co-wrote the screenplay, co-edited the film, directed second unit, and composed the original score. The film, a box-office success, marked a significant milestone in his career. McCorkle made his feature directorial debut with Unconditional (2012), a biographical drama starring Michael Ealy and Lynn Collins. He also wrote, edited, and co-scored the film, which earned a nomination for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture at the 2013 NAACP Image Awards. In 2023, McCorkle reunited with Jon Erwin to co-direct Jesus Revolution for which he also composed the original score, further showcasing his ability to blend storytelling with evocative music. As a screenwriter, McCorkle’s credits include I Can Only Imagine and Unconditional. His composing work spans original scores for I Can Only Imagine, Jesus Revolution, Woodlawn, Unconditional, Unsung Hero, Steve McQueen: American Icon, and Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon. His multifaceted contributions continue to elevate faith-based cinema with themes of hope, redemption, and resilience.
