George M. Marsden

Professor of History Emeritus — University of Notre Dame

George M. Marsden is the Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History Emeritus, University of Notre Dame. His many books include Jonathan Edwards: A Life, The Outrageous Idea of Christian Scholarship, and Fundamentalism and American Culture. His biography of Jonathan Edwards won virtually every major historical prize, including the Bancroft Prize, the Merle Curti Award, the Philip Schaff Prize, and the Eugene Genovese Prize. Mr. Marsden studied at Haverford College, Westminster Theological Seminary, and Yale University; he has taught at Calvin College, Duke University, and the University of Notre Dame. He is currently working on a book on Mere Christianity for Princeton University Press’s series on “Lives of Great Religious Books.”
