Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus has fired back at the touted boycott of his stores via a Facebook entry Wednesday.
For those who missed it, a June 30th article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitutiondelivered this to shrieking wokees:
He also has been a major political donor. According to OpenSecrets.org, he was a top contributor to Donald Trump during his presidential run. And Marcus told the AJC that he plans to support the president’s re-election bid. While Trump “sucks” at communication, Marcus said, the president deserves praise for boosting U.S. jobs, confronting China on trade and taking action against Iranian and North Korean aggression.
Marcus said his political giving remains far smaller than what he gives to philanthropic causes and what he plans to give in the future.
He’s cool with der Fürher Trump?? Cue the outrage.
But do those hip enough to be offended know how to build a house? How would they damage the business by refusing to buy Bernie’s 2×4’s?
That question aside, Big B got mad.
His post:
I woke up this morning thinking it was going to be another great day. I’ve been celebrating with friends, family and the community since I turned 90. I’ve told you about the gracious gift of $117 million that was collected and given in my honor to four charities that mean a lot to me. All that happiness blew up because I said in a newspaper interview that I have supported and will continue to support Donald Trump.
Boom!
So what’d he get from the side which once touted tolerance?
A little bit o’ this:
Negative stories… vicious threats, without cause, to boycott the company that has enabled my foundation to give billions to support autism, medical research, education, heart and neurological issues like stroke, and to help our veterans. The company that I retired from in 2002 and have not had a business relationship with in almost 20 years. A company that has employed more than a half-million people. The people who work there are affiliated with both political parties or no party at all. They are of all religions and all colors and backgrounds. Why would people want to hurt them?
Excellent question.
All because I give my voice and some of my money to our President. Am I in China? Argentina? Russia? That’s what it feels like to me.
Chances are this story doesn’t surprise you. We’re living in a time when companies are taking political stands like it’s running out of style, and there are forces attempting to inject a new fascistic morality: Either you’re far Left, or you’re evil.
And there are people out there with masks who are lovin’ fighting evil (holy cow, here).
Hence, an elderly man being persecuted for something which, 20 years ago, would’ve elicited virtually no reaction among the opposition other than, “So?”
Bernie doesn’t deserve it.
But I think he’s still doing okay. He’s lived to be 90, and he’s managed to make billions of dollars. I might just call that a major win.
And what kinda guy wins like that? This kind:
It saddens me that our country has come to this, where I, as a private citizen, cannot express my feelings. It angers me and it saddens me, but it sure as hell is not going to stop me. If you thought it would, you’ve got the wrong guy.
In the next ten years, God willing, I will accomplish more to save this world than my critics will do even if they had forty lifetimes.
May his next 10 be his best 10.
Get ’em, Tiger.
— And might I say I’m very happy with the interior paint I just bought from Bernie’s store. The color match was remarkable, and I’m at this present moment surrounded by its greatness.
