Migrant Caravan

The migrants in the caravan headed for the United States that began in Honduras and now is moving through Guatemala toward Mexico’s southern border claim they’re part of a spontaneous event.

With small children among them, they say they are seeking refuge from violence and poverty in Central America.

“We’ve lived in neighborhoods where our children have seen disaster after disaster,” Daisy Turcios told Reuters. “We have seen dead bodies thrown in front of us. So that’s my goal, in truth, to reach a country where life can change for my children.”

But the politics of the caravan can’t be overlooked, with President Trump’s secure-the-border agenda an issue in the coming midterm elections.

Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh questions the claim that the caravan is spontaneous.

He asks: Who is feeding this crowd of thousands? How are their hygienic needs being met?

On Thursday, he credited the president with being the “only one guy talking about stopping” the “invasion.”

“It is a flat-out invasion,” he warned, after the president tweeted: “Hard to believe that with thousands of people from south of the border, walking unimpeded toward our country in the form of large caravans, that the Democrats won’t approve legislation that will allow laws for the protection of our country. Great midterm issue for republicans!”

Limbaugh said it’s a “seminal issue.” said

“The Republicans running for reelection or election need to keep harping on this,” he said.

“Nobody is trying to stop this. Nobody is trying to stop it. It’s up to 4,000 people now. It’s estimated that this is costing somebody $21 million.

“But my question about this caravan: Who is feeding these people? They have to eat. This is a long walk. This is the Honduran version of Trail of Tears, right? Who is feeding these people? Where are they bathing? Where are they showering? They’ve been doing this for a week now. They are coming here ostensibly to escape poverty.

“Well, who is feeding them along the way? Who is providing, what shall we say, hygienic services? Where all these people going to the bathroom? Somebody has to have planned for this. This kind of thing as a spontaneous combustion-type event? They wouldn’t have made it this far if there weren’t somebody feeding them and if there weren’t services for them along the way.

“And I want to know who it is,” he said.

Reuters reported Thursday there were more Honduran migrants trying to join the already massive caravan.

That’s even though President Trump has threatened to withhold American financial aid to the nations that allow the crowd to advance.

Further, he’s discussed sending the military to protect the southern border.

The caravan left San Pedro Sula, Honduras, over the weekend.

“Several thousand people are now part of the caravan, according to a Reuters witness traveling with the group in Guatemala, where men women and children on foot and riding in trucks filled a road on their long journey to Mexico,” Reuters said.

Honduran officials have described the demonstration as politically motivated, and the London Daily Mail noted the caravan members have “no visas or other legal papers to enter” the U.S.

Trump has charged that the Guatemalan, Honduran and Salvadoran governments are doing nothing to stop a massive flow of people northward, “INCLUDING MANY CRIMINALS.”

Katie Waldman, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, said in the Daily Mail report: “Our nation faces a dangerous crisis on the border that threatens American communities. Congress refuses to close catch-and-release loopholes in the law that would allow authorities to detain and remove family units safely and expeditiously. While we do not have official numbers to report at this time, current trends indicate enforcement efforts against single adults entering illegally have been hugely successful.”

Trump, who made illegal immigration a top campaign issue, still is asking for funding for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

And now Republican House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has prepped legislation that would fully fund the the wall with a $23.4 billion price tag.

Democrats say they will refuse to support anything that doesn’t provide protections for so-called “Dreamers,” the children of illegal aliens brought to the U.S. when they were young.

AP reported Mexican President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who will take office Dec. 1, wants to avoid repression against migrants but also doesn’t want to offend the United States.

“We will offer jobs, work to Central Americans. Anyone who wants to work in our country will have help, will have a work visa,” he said.

WND reported the Honduran government was calling on those who launched the movement to give up and return home.

Participants aim to exploit the fact that law enforcement in the United States is not being allowed to detain illegal aliens with children due to the uproar over separation of children from illegal-alien parents undergoing prosecution.
