Sen. Konni Burton argues that “a parent has a right to full and total information [about] their child.”

Texas tea party state Sen. Konni Burton has filed legislation that would effectively require public school staff to out LGBT students to their parents.

Under Burton’s Senate Bill 242, any school employee that fails to disclose a student’s sexual or gender identity to their family would face disciplinary action, even if the student specifically asks for the information to remain private.
