Do Americans today truly value our freedom?

Lately at Point of View, we have been talking about what it means to defend freedom’s legacy. Defending a legacy that isn’t appreciated is no easy task.

Consider

Recently I wrote about a speech by Emily Austin at the Christians United for Israel conference. She talked about the false perception many young Americans have about their own country—that it is oppressive, that capitalism is evil, etc. She contrasted those false notions with the true realities of the rest of the world. 

The truth is, without accurate education, people won’t know how good they have it in America. We are a unique nation in world history, and a unique country today. But our freedoms aren’t guaranteed. Our republic will only last if we can “keep it,” as Benjamin Franklin famously said in 1787. 

Keeping our republic—defending freedom’s legacy—requires proper education about our nation’s history and the history of failed systems throughout the world. But the first step of defending freedom’s legacy is prayer.

Pray

Please pray the following prayer along with me: 

Dear God,

Thank you for the legacy of freedom we enjoy to this day in the United States of America. 

Forgive us for the ways we as a nation have failed to honor You and other people made in Your image. 

Motivate Americans to become part of a movement to defend freedom’s legacy through education and advocacy.

Most of all, turn more hearts toward You so that America can become a virtuous nation.
