Yes, we've arrived at the stage in this slog wherein members of the Senate are apparently poised to pass a bill that many of them vehemently believe should never become law, as-written. Wait, what? Bear with me, it's a bit complicated. As you know, Senators are preparing to vote on "skinny" repeal legislation, the contents of which are still being hashed out. Mitch McConnell is trying to write a bare-bones bill featuring provisions that enjoy broad support across the entire GOP conference, with the immediate goal of attracting 50-plus-one votes. If he's able to do so, one of two things would happen:

On July 1, 2016, without any systematic study of the consequences, the Obama administration reversed longstanding policies that excluded those who identify as transgender from serving in the U.S. military on both psychological and medical grounds.

As of that date, the armed services stopped discharging existing service members who suffer from gender dysphoria (unhappiness with their biological sex at birth) or who seek gender reassignment surgery, and as of October 1, 2016, began providing medical services to aid in their “transition” to living as the opposite gender.

President Obama had 206 of his nominees confirmed in the first six months of his administration, while President Trump has had only 55 nominees confirmed.
