Neil Shenvi, PhD
Homeschool Father | Author | Theoretical Chemist - Neil Shenvi – Apologetics
Neil Shenvi grew up in Delaware and attended Princeton University as an undergraduate where he worked on high-dimensional function approximation with Professor Herschel Rabitz. He became a Christian in Berkeley, CA where he did his PhD in Theoretical Chemistry at UC – Berkeley with Professor Birgitta Whaley. The subject of his PhD dissertation was quantum computation, including topics in quantum random walks, cavity quantum electrodynamics, spin physics, and the N-representability problem. From 2005-2010, he worked as a postdoctoral associate with Prof. John Tully at Yale where he did research into nonadiabatic dynamics, electron transfer, and surface science. He moved down to Durham in 2010 to do research into nonadiabatic dynamics and electronic structure theory with professor Weitao Yang at Duke University.

A few days after arriving in Durham, he had a seizure caused by an undiagnosed 5cm brain tumor between his cerebellum and occipital lobe. By God’s grace, the emergency surgery was a success and he’s been healthy ever since.

In 2015, he quit his job at Duke to homeschool their four children, though he still fiddles with quantum mechanics now and then for fun. In addition to his duties as the principal of the South Durham Academy for Math and Science (also known as Daddy Academy), he tutors the Master’s class at their local Classical Conversations homeschool co-op. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, weight-lifting, and video games.

He and his wife are members at The Summit Church.
Book Cover - Critical Dilemma
Critical Dilemma: The Rise of Critical Theories and Social Justice Ideology―Implications for the Church and Society
In Critical Dilemma, authors Neil Shenvi and Pat Sawyer illuminate the origins and influences of contemporary critical theory, considering it in the light of clear reason and biblical orthodoxy. While acknowledging that it can provide some legitimate insights regarding race, class, and gender, Critical Dilemma exposes the false assumptions at the heart of critical theory, arguing that it poses a serious threat to both the church and society at large.

Drawing on exhaustive research and careful analysis, Shenvi and Sawyer condemn racism, urge Christians to seek justice, and offer a path forward for racial healing and unity while also opposing critical theory’s manifold errors.

Fifty Years of Open-Air Preaching: Everything I've Learned
In the midst of a godless culture, Paul did what was necessary to reach the masses with the message of everlasting life: he reasoned about Jesus “in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there” (Acts 17:17) and he found a hill to preach on. We too are living in the midst of a godless society, and those in the streets desperately need to hear God’s Word. If we are serious about reaching this dying world, let us emulate Jesus and the apostles and preach where sinners gather. In thirty minutes, a good open-air preacher can reach more unsaved people than the average church does in a year. If you’re ready for something more exhilarating than skydiving, arguably more scary, and infinitely more productive, try peaching the gospel in public. For more than fifty years Ray Comfort has preached the gospel in the open air and witnessed one-to-one to thousands. During those years he has learned certain biblical principles that make reaching the lost so much easier.
