Ben Locke
Journal Keeper | Writer | Poet | Speaker
After multiple injuries and chronic illness forced him to abandon his hopes of playing professional soccer, Ben Locke dove head first into writing as a means of escape, expression and faith. He began journaling his interactions with the Lord, often hunched over the side of his bed due to illness and for two years, Ben remained isolated and journeying through the Bible, reading the book of Job and Psalms to stay near to God. Through a series of wonderfully absurd events, his very daily journal became a manuscript that led to the upcoming release of his debut book, In Our Suffering, Lord Be Near. This honest pursuit, along with the unwavering support of his family, also led him to come forward about the sexual abuse he endured as a collegiate athlete. His unexpected discovery ofthe profound grace of God, combined with his intense experiences of pain and suffering, motivate him to speak with directness, write with vulnerability, and tell the story of the broken. Ben recently launched an online journal called Evensong, which is a weekly writing shared with readers interested in communal prayer, as an additional layer to his newfound passion for writing.

In Our Suffering, Lord Be Near: Prayers of Hope for the Hurting
You are not alone. When author Ben Locke was in his darkest valleys, he was determined to tell God exactly what he thought. He poured out his agony and anger--and was met with God's grace, love, forgiveness, and mercy. He discovered in those moments that God can handle it. All of it. And the prayers that poured out Ben's experience offer a road map for you to take your sorrows, grief, and troubles to God, knowing He will meet you in your time of suffering.

In Our Suffering, Lord Be Near can be a light in the darkness if you ever:
+ Feel like questioning, yelling at, doubting, or even denouncing God
+ Want to separate from the church
+ Wonder if God is listening to your prayers and cares about your troubles
+ Do not know what to do with your anger
+ Fear that life will be this way forever

The psalm like prayers borne out of these experiences will meet you in your own moments of suffering. But they are more than prayers. They're cries for help and explosions of anger, mourning, weeping, grieving, celebrating, rejoicing, and praising. They're liturgies to heal your soul, balm for your wounds, and tender mercies for your heartache.

Mitch Glaser, PhD
Author | Editor | Writer | Teacher - President of Chosen People Ministries
Born into a nominally Orthodox Jewish home in New York City, Dr. Mitch Glaser grew up during a time when major changes were happening in American society around views on life, death, and religion. Dr. Glaser lost his religious roots shortly after his Bar Mitzvah at age thirteen to the excitement and energy of the 1960s.
Dr. Glaser first heard the gospel message following a friend’s decision to accept Jesus as her Messiah, which led him to receive Jesus himself in November 1970. Almost immediately after becoming a believer, Dr. Glaser became involved with what was then the West Coast branch of Chosen People Ministries, marking the start of a forty-five-year ministry. Since 1997, Dr. Glaser has served as president of Chosen People Ministries—one of the oldest and largest Messianic missions in the United States.

An alumnus of Northeastern Bible College, Dr. Glaser also holds a Master of Divinity degree in Old Testament from Talbot School of Theology as well as a PhD in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, School of Intercultural Studies. He is author, co-author and co-editor of several books, all published by Kregel Publications. Dr. Glaser has written many articles for Christian periodicals and has taught at leading evangelical schools such as Talbot School of Theology, Fuller Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, and Columbia International University.

Dr. Glaser is married to Zhava and they have two daughters, Miriam and Jenni.
