Abortion Pill Poll
Kerby Anderson
Chemical abortions have become the primary way women end their pregnancy. After the FDA approved a new generic abortion drug, a large national survey was conducted by McLaughlin & Associates.
They found that 7 in 10 likely voters approved of requiring a doctor visit prior to receiving a prescription for abortion drugs. This percentage includes a majority (57%) of liberal voters. They believe that screening is necessary for several reasons.
First, there is a possibility of coercion and abuse. Two-thirds agree with the statement that abortion drugs might be used by an abuser to cover up rape, exploitation, and sex trafficking.
A second reason for a doctor visit is the medical concerns associated with these abortion pills. As we have documented in our booklet, A Biblical View on Chemical Abortion, “the rate of ER visits after chemical abortions has increased 500% since 2002.” And “1 in 5 women who take abortion pills will experience so much bleeding that they will require medical attention.”
A third reason is abortion drug poisoning. The vast majority (80%) of voters agree no one should be able to get abortion drugs online or from a foreign country and be able to give them to a woman without her knowledge of consent.
And an even larger percentage (90%) approve of requiring the FDA drug labels to accurately report the real-world impact of a drug on patients. This would include warnings about harmful complications like bleeding, sepsis, and infections.
Republican senators have called on the FDA and HHS to act. I believe this poll provides ample justification for bringing back safeguards that were removed under the Biden administration.
