Defund It Already

Planned Parenthood released its annual report right in the middle of House Republicans’ effort to defund the organization. What timing!
The report shows that, in 2024, Planned Parenthood committed more abortions than the previous year and soaked in 13 percent more funding from the U.S. taxpayer.
The $792.2 million U.S. taxpayers provided to Planned Parenthood is 39 percent of the organization’s annual revenue. That makes the U.S. government Planned Parenthood’s largest contributor.
Planned Parenthood was responsible for 402,200 abortions last year, over 1100 per day.
Some states have zeroed out Planned Parenthood funding. But, as the report points out, Planned Parenthood helps women from pro-life states travel to get abortions.
The Hyde amendment supposedly prevents taxpayers from having to fund abortions. But Planned Parenthood receives Medicaid funding, ostensibly to pay for certain health “services” for poor women. Provision of those services decreased significantly last year. Professor Michael New told The Washington Stand cancer screenings are down 8 percent, pap smears dropped 12 percent, and primary care visits declined 14 percent, while abortions increased.
According to Susan B. Anthony Pro Life America, ”pregnant women seeking help at Planned Parenthood are sold an abortion 97 percent of the time, while prenatal services, miscarriage care and adoption referrals make up a miniscule minority of the options they offer.”
As part of the budget reconciliation package, the House Energy and Commerce Committee approved language to end federal funding to any entity that performs or facilitates abortions.
Planned Parenthood’s annual report also touts its participation in the gender business. The organization refers to itself as the nation’s “second-largest provider of hormone therapy.” The Daily Signal reported on Live Action’s recent undercover investigations which reveal “that Planned Parenthood is providing minors with same-day prescriptions for cross-sex hormones."
The reconciliation bill’s language also removes funding for these gruesome activities.
It’s time for Congress to completely defund Planned Parenthood, for good.
