Planned Parenthood affiliates are getting creative in the face of the loss of taxpayer funding.

In a 6-3 decision last June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states can exclude Planned Parenthood from their Medicaid programs on the basis that the organization provides abortions. This imperils the organization’s presence in conservative states.

Soon thereafter Congress passed and the president signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act which bars Medicaid funding for tax exempt organizations that perform abortions. For decades, federal law has almost completely banned federal funding of abortion. But the new legislation prevents Medicaid funds from going to groups that provide contraception and other services if they also perform abortions and receive more than $800,000 Medicaid (dollars) annually. Chief among these organizations is Planned Parenthood.

Reporting a $100-million (dollar) revenue gap, Planned Parenthood’s national office has laid off staff and closed 50 clinics last year — many in states with permissive abortion laws.

The Wall Street Journal reports that, in an effort to keep the doors open, the organization’s largest affiliate, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, which operates clinics in Northern California and Nevada, “is overhauling its business model with a slate of new services.”

The clinics are now offering Botox injections and IV hydration. They’re looking at adding laser hair removal and cosmetic filler treatments. Mar Monte leaders told The Journal, these added services “fit with a larger mission of promoting bodily autonomy.”

Patients pay cash for these aesthetic treatments. The clinics can charge significantly less than your typical medspa and still make a nice profit. They don’t need cushy surroundings. Ladies can get their hydration IV’s in the same recliners where patients recover from having a pregnancy terminated.

Mar Monte leaders told The Journal they hope these “unconventional offerings such as Botox and lip and cheek fillers will generate enough revenue to subsidize the healthcare Planned Parenthood is best known for.” That would be abortion.penna's vp small
