U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX) released the following statement applauding the passage of a critical measure to protect American students and campuses across the country:
“Last week I organized a meeting between our local FBI Special Agent in Charge and local law enforcement agents, elected officials and superintendents to discuss how we can open the lines of communication between us to ensure our campuses are safe. This meeting helped us understand statistics and facts surrounding these incidents, processes that are in place, and areas where we need to vastly improve. Coming off the heels of this meeting I am pleased that the Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, announced the formation of a school safety commission and that today the House passed a school safety bill. I proudly supported this legislation because it will provide schools with the resources necessary to prevent future tragedies as well as protect our students, teachers, and campuses. This is an important first step in protecting our students, however, we must continue to work together with local leaders and communities to ensure that our schools and children are safe.”
