For over three decades, Dan Pilla has been the nation’s leader in taxpayers’ rights defense and IRS abuse prevention and cure. Regarded as one of the country’s premiere experts in IRS procedures and general financial problems resolution techniques, he has helped hundreds of thousands of citizens solve personal and business tax and financial problems they thought might never be solved. As the author of 14 books, dozens of research reports and hundreds of articles, Dan’s work is regularly featured on radio and television as well as in major newspapers, leading magazines and trade publications nation-wide. Dan is a frequent guest on numerous talk radio programs where he is heard by millions of people each year. His fast-paced interviews provide hard-hitting answers to even the toughest questions. His many media appearances include CNN, CBS, CNBC, Fox News, CSPAN, the CBS Radio Network, the USA Radio Network and many others. His books have been recommended by prominent magazines and financial publications such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Money, Family Circle, Investor’s Business Daily and more. Dan has written or contributed to major articles for Reader’s Digest, National Review, Reason, USA Today Magazine and others. The Associated Press once commented that “Dan Pilla probably knows more about the IRS than the commissioner.” The Wall Street Journal ranked his book, The IRS Problem Solver, as the number one tax book in America. Dan was a consultant to the National Commission on Restructuring the IRS. He works with numerous public policy research institutes and presented testimony to Congress on several occasions. His testimony to the Senate Finance Committee blew the lid off IRS abuse and led to many new taxpayers’ rights and protections. He was a member of the Editorial Board of the Road Map to Tax Reform Project, which drove the Bush Administration’s tax reform agenda. Dan is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and is enrolled to practice before the IRS. Dan is also the Executive Director of the Tax Freedom Institute, Inc., a national association of tax professionals.

Charles is happily married to his wife Melanie and they are the proud parents of four children (Megan, Lance, Luke and Leah). He received his Bachelor of Music in 1982 from North Texas State University (now UNT) and his Master of Theology (1994) from Dallas Theological Seminary with an emphasis in Historical Theology.
He presently serves on the staff at Denton Bible Church where he wears a number of hats including, serving as Director of a Theological institute, coordinating and teaching in the DBC Young Guns Program (an intensive men’s discipleship program), and teaching an adult Sunday School class. He also enjoys regularly teaching through DBC’s Missions program in various parts of the world as well as leading tours to Israel (a total of 15 Tours at this time).
His areas of special teaching interest include Apologetics & Christian Ethics, Creation and Evolution issues, and Christian Worldview. He has taught a three-year comprehensive multi-disciplinary worldview education program to High School aged students each year since 2008. His interest in these areas has opened up opportunities to participate in debates and panel discussions on College Campuses on the Creation and Evolution controversy as well as comparative religion and a variety of ethical issues.

Barry grew up in Texas and graduated from the University of Texas Law School (Austin) in 1986. He was admitted to the bar in 1987 and since then has practiced mainly in complex civil litigation, including constitutional law, and nonprofit law.

He has been an allied attorney with the Alliance for Defending Freedom since 1994. He served in the Colorado legislature in the 1990s. Some of his cases have been in the news. In 1999, he began representing several of the families whose children were killed at Columbine. In 2020, he represented a Colorado church in a case that went to the United States Supreme Court. His firm won that case and succeeded in opening the churches, which Colorado had shut down during COVID. He discusses his experiences with those cases in the book, Unforgetting God: Defeating Culture-Destroying Materialism Through Christian Renewal.

He has been involved in the intelligent design movement for many years. He ran the intelligent design website, UncommonDescent.com for well over a decade, which in its hey day was the largest intelligent design discussion site on the internet. In 2023, the decision was made to shut the website down and archive it at Discovery Institute’s website.
