Before starting EPM in 1990, Randy served as a pastor for fourteen years. He has a Bachelor of Theology and Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from Multnomah University and an Honorary Doctorate from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon. He has taught on the adjunct faculties of both. A New York Times bestselling author, Randy has written over fifty books, including Happiness, Heaven, The Treasure Principle, and the Gold Medallion winner Safely Home. His books have been translated into over sixty languages and have sold over nine million copies. Randy has written for many magazines including EPM’s issues-oriented magazine Eternal Perspectives. He blogs, is active daily on Facebook and Twitter, and has been a guest on more than 700 radio, television and online programs including Focus on the Family, FamilyLife Today, Revive Our Hearts, and The Bible Answer Man. Randy resides in Gresham, Oregon, with his wife, Nanci. They have two married daughters and are the proud grandparents of five grandsons. Randy enjoys hanging out with his family, biking, underwater photography, research, and reading.

Randy Barnett represented the National Federation of Independent Business in its constitutional challenge to Obamacare (which he discusses in the Introduction). He is the Carmack Waterhouse Professor of Legal Theory at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches constitutional law and contracts, and directs the Georgetown Center for the Constitution. A recipient of both a Guggenheim Fellowship in Constitutional Studies and the Bradley Prize, Professor Barnett is the author of eleven books, including Restoring the Lost Constitution and The Structure of Liberty.

At Maranatha, Randy has served as an instructor in the School of Ministry, as a professor in the Maranatha Bible College, as a member of the elder and deacon board and as a lay pastor. Prior to Christian ministry, Randy was an attorney with more than 25 years of experience advising corporations and negotiating agreements relating to their intellectual property and technology. Randy earned his JD in 1989 from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was a Senior Editor of the Virginia Journal of Law and Politics. In 1983, Randy received his BA in both History and Classics from Stanford University. At Stanford, Randy was inducted into the academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa and served The Stanford Daily as a news reporter, a weekly bylined op/ed columnist and as a member of the newspaper’s Editorial Board. Randy also attended the American School of Classical Studies, in Athens, Greece and the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome, Italy. Randy spent the summer of 1986 in Degeberga, Sweden as a farm hand and as a shepherd of sheep and goats.

A life-long resident of Virginia, Randy began his career in private law practice helping small and medium-sized businesses and ultimately became a partner in the largest law firm in southeastern Virginia. From 1989-2001, he served the Commonwealth of Virginia in the General Assembly. As a member of the House of Delegates, he served 7 years, quickly establishing himself and serving as the Floor Leader until his election to the State Senate in 1997. One year later, he became the Senate Floor Leader. He served in the State Senate for 3 1/2 years, until his election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Randy graduated from Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake in 1970. He was valedictorian of his 1974 class at Randolph-Macon College. In 1977, Randy graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. Randy attends Great Bridge Baptist Church, where he has taught adult Sunday school for over 20 years. He was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia where he still resides with his wife Shirley. He and Shirley have been married since 1978 and have four children: Neil, Jamie, Jordan, and Justin and three grandchildren.

Petersen spent twenty-one years in law enforcement in Bloomingdale, Illinois, working in patrol, investigations, administration, and management. After retiring from the Bloomingdale Police Department, Randy moved to Texas where he was the Director of the Tarrant County College District Criminal Justice Training Center, one of the busiest police academies in the state.
