In 2001, Al and his wife, Susan, helped found Global Hope Network International for responding to events like 9/11 and Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar. For several years, Al served as a regional humanitarian director and crisis manager for Cru, operating from Paris, France. Al has served as President and CEO of Global Aid Network (GAiN) since 2013. All corporate officers for Global Aid Network are compensated through Cru (formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ), the parent organization. Cru rates each job and position, and uses an established scale to determine compensation levels. Since that time he has been teaching at Dallas Baptist University as an Adjunct Professor in History. He has also served as Interim Pastor at three churches in the Metroplex. Alan Sears serves as President, CEO, and General Counsel of Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). He leads the efforts of ADF through a comprehensive legal strategy that includes training, funding, and legal advocacy that has resulted in various important roles in 47 victories at the United States Supreme Court and in three out of four cases. Since the launch of ADF in 1994, Sears has provided strategic leadership in the training of 1,846 lawyers from 45 nations through the one-of-a-kind ADF Legal Academy. These attorneys have provided more than $195 million in pro-bono/dedicated time. His visionary efforts have also resulted in the graduation of more than 1,600 outstanding law students, representing more than 200 law schools from 20 nations from the world-class Blackstone Legal Fellowship leadership training program. Sears earned his Juris Doctor from Louis D. Brandeis School of Law. While serving in numerous positions within the Reagan and Bush Administrations, he worked for the Department of Justice under Attorneys General William French Smith and Edwin Meese III, including service as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and Chief of the Criminal Section. After receiving an education in biology and at seminary, Dr. Alan Weissenbacher worked for the Denver Rescue Mission as a chaplain to the homeless. He helped move homeless and addicted people out of an urban setting to a one-hundred-acre farm, giving them opportunities to help run the farm, care for animals, and receive therapy tailored to their individual needs: counseling, addiction therapy, job training, and more. Inspired by the struggles of his clients and filled with the desire to improve Christian rehabilitation, Alan resigned from his position at the Denver Rescue Mission and enrolled in a doctorate program. He studied neuroscience and spiritual formation at the Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences in Berkeley and engaged with the question of how to improve addiction recovery, church practices, and spiritual formation using the scientific knowledge of the brain. Alan serves as the managing editor for the academic journal Theology and Science and has published works with Johns Hopkins University Press, Vernon Press, and ATF Press on the subjects of science, religion, and ethics. He authored the chapter on neuroscience and the human person in the second edition of the college textbook Science and Religion: A Historical Introduction in addition to articles in several journals, including Theology and Science, Dialog, Wesleyan Theological Journal, and Zygon. Originally from Fort Collins, Colorado, Alan currently resides in Castro Valley, California, where he’s a full-time dad to two young boys and enjoys speaking at churches and organizations.
