Lea Patterson serves as Counsel with First Liberty Institute. Before joining First Liberty, Patterson worked in St. Louis, Missouri as a law clerk to the Honorable Raymond W. Gruender of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Patterson received her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2016, where she served as an executive editor for the Virginia Law Review and as president of the UVA chapter of Advocates for Life, a national association of law students dedicated to protecting human life. During law school, Patterson interned in the Texas Solicitor General’s Office and Senator Ted Cruz’s Judiciary Committee office. Patterson received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Texas Christian University in 2013, graduating summa cum laude. A native of North Texas, Patterson is a member of the Texas State Bar.

Kelley McLean serves as Deputy Director of Government Affairs for First Liberty Institute in the Washington, D.C. office. In this role, she develops and implements First Liberty’s strategic initiatives at the federal level with external entities and allies on Capitol Hill. As a principal strategist, McLean provides important feedback on religious freedom to members and staff of the U.S. Congress, the White House and federal agencies. Prior to joining First Liberty, McLean served as Legislative Assistant to Senator James Lankford where she oversaw the Senate Values Action Team and advised several members of U.S. Senate. She served as Government Affairs Fellow at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. McLean also ran the House Values Action Team under its founding chair Congressman Joseph Pitts, where she advised multiple members of U.S. Congress. Prior to that, she worked as the Government Relations Coordinator for a non-profit committed to promoting human rights and religious liberty abroad. During college, McLean helped another international non-profit committed to promoting religious freedom and rule of law in China, open their Washington, DC Government Affairs office. McLean received her Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and Asian Studies from Austin College.

Liberty McArtor is the host of the Know Why Podcast and a co-host for Point of View Radio Talk Show, where she has worked as a writer since 2018. Previously, Liberty taught English at a Christian hybrid school, tutored students in English and writing, and wrote for various outlets and organizations, including First Liberty Institute.Liberty earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Patrick Henry College in Northern Virginia, during which time she interned with the National Journalism Center. Before graduating, Liberty also worked as the talk radio producer for WMAL’s weekend show in Washington, D.C.Today, Liberty lives in North Texas with her husband and their two children, whom they homeschool.
