Host Kerby Anderson speaks with first time guest Michael Lundie. Dr. Lundie joins Kerby in our studio. They’ll talk about faith, spiritual fitness, and the marvelous human brain. As a Cognitive Scientist, Michael is developing ways to improve cognitive functions in warfighters who sustained traumatic brain injuries.

And in the second hour, Kerby brings us today’s top stories.

Michael Lundie, PhD
Staff Cognitive Scientist at Applied Research Associates - Cognitive Scientist | Translational Research Neuroscientist | Bridging hearts and minds to support US military warfighters and veterans
Dr. Michael Lundie is a Staff Cognitive Scientistat ARA and has acquired extensive experience in neuropsychological research, qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and analysis, and cognitive and behavioral modeling. His topical areas of research expertise encompass optimization of human brain health and performance as well as developing models and interventions related to cognitive warfare and ideological polarization. With regards to the former, his most recent work concerns the efficacy of neuromodulation methods such as transcranial photobio modulation (tPBM) to improve cognitive performance. Dr. Lundie contributed to and led projects that assessed interventions for improving cognitive performance, evaluating human-computer interfaces for improving cognitive functions in warfighters who sustained traumatic brain injuries, quantitative methods for assessing decision making, and the efficacy of neurostimulation-based methods for mapping the neural correlates of creative problem solving. Turning to cognitive warfare, Dr. Lundie’s research has contributed models identifying the specific role of metacognition as a moderator of confirmation bias conferring resistance to online influence campaigns. His current research seeks to identify the neuropsychological underpinnings of susceptibility to cognitive warfare tactics, with an eye toward developing interventions that improve digital literacy and facilitate adaptive psychosocial outcomes in the context of social media use.

Dr. Lundie’s findings have been presented at the Academia Industry Military (AIM) Health R&D Summit, The Military Health Science Research Symposium (MHSRS), Society for Philosophy and Psychology(SPP), the Cognitive Neuroscience Society (CNS), and the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP). Dr. Lundie studied Philosophy at Southern Methodist University, received his M.A. in Neurophilosophy at GeorgiaState University, and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Cognition and Neuroscience at the University of Texas at Dallas. His dissertation project merited funding through the prestigious Friends of Brain Health Distinguished New Scientist Award and Dianne Cash Fellowship.

Faith and Cognitive Research
Within a week of earning his PhD, Lundie went to work for Advanced Research Associates (ARA) as a staff cognitive scientist who focuses on national security and military health research areas. ARA is a defense contractor that studies, among other topics, cognitive subjects of interests to the U.S. military.
