Most Americans think of the Civil War as an unambiguous conflict between the North and the South over slavery, and that is generally accurate. It was an insurrection against the federal government committed by 11 states whose Democrat governors and legislators feared that the recently elected Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, would deprive them of their non-citizen labor force.

Violent rioters in Portland, Oregon, attacked a federal ICE facility, injuring officers and breaching the building with explosives and rocks on Saturday. What many on the left will call a “peaceful” protest, it’s not— it’s domestic terrorism enabled by weak local leadership.

Almost immediately after the “mostly peaceful” protesters took to the streets of Los Angeles to engage in Latin American-style protests — throwing rocks, burning cars, waving Mexican flags, etc. — the media begged the rioters to stop.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, announced he is launching an investigation into one of the entities that possibly funded the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles.

President Trump’s One, Big, Beautiful Bill is in the Senate, where Republicans have a more comfortable majority than the House and a more favorable re-election map waiting for them next year.
