It feels like common sense is flowing back into the country as the Trump administration goes department-by-department, unraveling much of the woke nonsense under which decision-makers have been operating. One absurd policy after another is being jettisoned and replaced with common sense directives like the one that says:
“Sororities are for women.”
In early June, the U.S. Department of Education announced: “A sorority that admits male students is no longer a sorority by definition and thus loses the Title IX statutory exemption for a sorority’s single sex membership practices.”
If you let men in — even those who call themselves trans women — you forfeit the protections a women’s organization is entitled to.
In an article for The Daily Signal, Lesley Smith, attorney, advocate for women, and a member of Delta Gamma sorority wrote that if you let men in, “you’re just another coed club…one that forces radical leftist groupthink on its female members.”
It wasn’t so long ago that males were not even allowed upstairs in sorority houses. In fact, the year I was president of my sorority’s chapter, we had to de-activate a member and require her to move out of the house mid-semester because her boyfriend was regularly climbing a tree and into her window to spend the night.
We issued warnings. But the couple persisted in not only disobeying the rules, but causing extreme anguish and inconvenience for the dear friend and roommate of the offending member.
I had to sign the document. I had to tell a sorority sister that she was out.
The National Panhellenic Conference, the body that oversees sororities nationwide, should have known better than to allow biological males to join sororities. But, according to Lesley Smith, Panhellenic, along with the leaders of all 26 national sororities “cast aside women who dared to say what common sense, and the law have always affirmed: Men do not belong in women’s spaces.”
Hopefully, now, sororities will take their identity back.
