Should there be an investigation of the Justice Department? Senator Ted Cruz makes the case for an investigation in his book, Justice Corrupted: How the Left Weaponized Our Legal System. Lawyer Harmeet Dhillon also makes the case in her recent Hillsdale speech on “The Politicization of the Department of Justice.”

Senator Cruz argues that the left has corrupted the US legal system. Liberal judges and prosecutors wield the law as a weapon. Be afraid if you stand in their way. You might be intimidated, silenced, or even imprisoned. The IRS may come knocking at your door.

He devotes whole chapters to the saga of “Crossfire Hurricane” and the promotion of critical race theory. The corruption began with Richard Nixon and continued through Barack Obama and now culminated with the administration of Joe Biden. He concludes that American citizens are no longer equal under the law. There is one standard for the politically correct elites and another very different standard for the “deplorables.”

Harmeet Dhillon traces her concerns back to the Patriot Act, enacted just six weeks after the 9/11 attack. This allowed the government to monitor all our electronic devices. Once rare applications for surveillance warrants to FISA multiplied many-fold.

She provides details of the Justice Department raid on Project Veritas and on Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago raid. In the first case, DOJ seized 47 electronic devices from three Project Veritas journalists. In the second, numerous boxes of material were removed, even if they weren’t germane to the investigation.

The politicization of the Department of Justice and the weaponization of our legal system deserve a full congressional investigation.viewpoints new web version
