Victor Davis Hanson wrote about “Our New Ungracious Immigrants.” He wisely began by reminding us of the positive impact of immigrants that have given us such high-tech benefits as “eBay, Google, Nvidia, SpaceX, Stripe, Sun Microsystems, Tesla, Yahoo, and a host of others.” And he also reminded us of the immigrants in the past who were thrilled to be in America and became hyperpatriotic.
But something has changed. He takes a few pages to remind us of immigrants who hate America and lead groups to bring down the current political and economic systems that have provided for so many citizens. Then he turns to the harsh reality of many of these new Americans who are bent on killing other Americans.
This month of March provides sufficient examples. On March 1, a Muslim from Senegal wearing a “Property of Allah” sweatshirt shot up a beer garden in Austin, Texas killing 3 and wounding 14 others. A few days later, sons of immigrants from Turkey and Afghanistan threw IEDs at a protest in New York City with the hope of killing more people than were killed at the Boston Marathon.
Later that week, a Muslim from Sierra Leone went into an ROTC meeting at Old Dominion University and murdered the instructor. The same day, a Muslim from Lebanon drove his car rigged with explosive fireworks into Temple Israel in Michigan.
He also reminds us that not all the killing is intentional. “Thousands of driver’s licenses have been issued to both illegal aliens and legal residents from all over the world, including those who do not understand English, cannot pass a commercial driver’s test, and are utterly unqualified to drive.”
His many examples illustrate that we have a flawed immigration system that needs to be fixed.
