For many, sports has become more of a platform than a way to glorify God. But nearly 200,000 students, coaches, parents and community members will gather on hundreds of athletic fields nationwide next month for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes 15th annual Fields of Faith to bring glory to Jesus Christ rather than attention to themselves.
These athletes will stand for their faith at upwards of 500 student-led and student-driven gatherings across the country and around the world. The central focus is to encourage their peers to pray, read their Bible and commit their lives to Christ.
“Fields of Faith truly changes lives,” said FCA Executive Director of Ministry Advancement Jeff Martin. “From the student leaders who take on the responsibility to bring Fields of Faith to their communities to the skeptical or hurting teen who might be attending for the first time, we see time and again that Fields of Faith motivates, energizes, rejuvenates and unites. Jesus takes hold of lives right there on the athletic fields, and we are continually amazed at what He does each year in young peoples’ lives.”
Originated in 2004 by Martin, Fields of Faith is a peer-to-peer event that inspires students to refuel their faith and get back to the basics of reading God’s Word through worship and personal testimonies.
Last fall, thousands of lives were changed eternally on 521 fields across the country, as the 2017 event set a new record with 198,000 in attendance. Even more important, 6,213 made first-time faith commitments, 5,015 recommitted their lives to Christ, and 6,494 committed to reading their Bible.
Said Micah, a past attendee: “Fields of Faith was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever been to. So many people were all able to worship God, at our school, in front of everyone. This is a wonderful event that all states and schools should try to start.”
“God is up to something HUGE here as the students are searching and hungry for the truth,” added Suzanne. “There is no limit to what God wants to do in the lives of HIS students, if we only allow Him to.”
Chris said that “we are ready to see the Lord use this moment to launch a season of revival that will bring many students to a saving relationship with Jesus! All of the youth ministers here are networked and committed to serve together in unity!”
And Zach remembers his powerful Fields of Faith involvement. “We totally rocked Fields of Faith!! It was such an amazing experience to see so many teens there, so much more than I expected! Most of them were really into the worship and what we had to say with the testimonies and scriptures! God is AWESOME!”
