Nancy Pelosi has had a contentious relationship with the self-proclaimed “squad” since they entered Congress. Referred to as the “fresh faces” by the media after their elections in 2018, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley have sought to hold an out-sized influence in the Democrat party.

Through slick marketing and a more than compliant press corps, they’ve largely succeeded.

Pelosi is apparently growing tired of it and in an interview with The New York Times, she spoke candidly about them.

Speaker Pelosi says ⁦⁦@AOC⁩, ⁦@IlhanMN⁩, ⁦@AyannaPressley⁩ and ⁦⁦@RashidaTlaib “have their public whatever and their Twitter world. But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.” https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/06/opinion/sunday/nancy-pelosi-pride-parade.html

The article described the outrage of the Squad, as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts are known.

Pelosi feels that the four made themselves irrelevant to the process by voting against “our bill,” as she put it, which she felt was the strongest one she could get. “All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” she said. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”

In other words, Twitter is not real life.

She’s not wrong. If you’ve ever used the platform and then compared it to any experience in your actual life, you’ll recognize it’s an echo chamber that amplifies the craziest, silly ideals via mob rule. AOC may get 150K likes on her silly tweets, but she can’t even manage to swing one vote outside of her immediate orbit.

The problem for Pelosi is that the “squad” have a rabid fan base that will mock, attack, harass, and mob those that get on their bad side. Now she’s made herself a target and they are going to be vicious.

Recall that it wasn’t long ago that Pelosi was posing with these new members on the cover of Rolling Stone. She elevated them early on for her own gain and is now reaping the harvest.
