The Tide Director Don Shenk was born to missionary parents in what was then known as Rhodesia, and prior to joining The Tide in 2001 served as a missionary teaching at a Bible School in Zimbabwe, Africa. In addition to lecturing in the classroom at Ekuphileni Bible Institute Don served as Academic Dean, Director of Student Ministries, and also developed and implemented a manual skills training program to enable rural pastors to minister bi-vocationally. Through twenty eight years living in Zimbabwe, and numerous visits to Africa, Eastern Europe and India as a ministry administrator and resource person for church conferences and leadership training events, Don has acquired a wealth of international, cross cultural ministry experience. As the world becomes more and more of a global village, Don’s greatest passion is to reach people for Jesus Christ and to bring them into the Church.

Grimes County Sheriff Don Sowell has had an impressive law enforcement career, and those who know him consider him a gentleman and lawman who proudly wears the badge. Sowell is a Grimes County native who graduated from Navasota High School, and after graduation, he joined the military and served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. In 1973, he was a Deputy Sheriff with the Harris County Sheriff's Office until in retired in 1998. He received his Master Peace Officer's certification in 1994 and is the 34th sheriff of Grimes County. He's also a lifetime member of the Sheriff's Association of Texas.

A noted educator, minister, and author, Dr. Donald Sweeting currently serves as Chancellor of Colorado Christian University, following a term as CCU president from 2016-2022. Dr. Sweeting previously served as the president of Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Fla., where he regularly taught core and elective courses in church history, pastoral theology, and ministry leadership. Dr. Sweeting is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) and has pastored two congregations for more than 10 years each before entering higher education. Prior to beginning pastoral ministry, Dr. Sweeting served as an assistant to Chuck Colson and staff at Prison Fellowship in Washington, D.C. Dr. Sweeting's college education began at Moody Bible Institute (MBI) where he majored in Bible-Theology. Dr. Sweeting went on to earn his B.A. in History from Lawrence University, and then the B.A./M.A. degree from Oxford University in England. He also spent a year of graduate work at Regent College in British Columbia, Canada, studying with J. I. Packer. He then went on to receive his doctorate in Historical Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Illinois. Dr. Sweeting regularly speaks around the country and has co-authored several books, including How to Finish the Christian Life: Following Jesus in the Second Half of Life, (Moody Press). Dr. Sweeting and his wife, Christina, have three adult sons and a daughter. Two of his children are recent CCU graduates.

Donald McCluskey is president of Ancient Words Ministries, an organization that specializes in teaching theology and hermeneutics to church leaders and lay people in various parts of the world. Don has authored several books, the most recent being The Messiah Beyond a Shadow of Doubt, which explores the Jewish holy days in the Law of Moses and demonstrates that they are actually shadow prophesies that clearly identify Jesus of Nazareth as the Lord’s Messiah. He is active in teaching this subject in churches and seminars, and is available for speaking engagements and educational events. Don’s current work involves website and video development that will disseminate the message of the Messiah around the globe. His hope is to create an online facility that will enable seekers to interact with Ancient Words staff by exchanging questions and answers to give a deeper understanding of the Messiah in the Appointed Times. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Ancient Words provides humanitarian aid to people who have been displaced by the civil war in Myanmar. Don works with key people in Myanmar, including his former students, to provide food, shelter, and essentials to some of the 2.6-million internally displaced people (IDP’s) in the country. He is involved with fund-raising and providing guidance for these IDP mission endeavors.

Recognizing by his high-school years that he had a strong drive for the integration of faith and learning, he felt called to a ministry of preaching, teaching, and writing. He holds a BA in English from Taylor University, an M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a PhD in Medieval and Renaissance Literature from the University of Georgia. Donna Garner has taught for more than 33 years. During that time, she was chosen to serve on the English / Language Arts / Reading (ELAR) writing team for Texas when the TEKS education standards were developed for the public schools (1995-97). She was also the lead writer of the Texas Alternative Document (TAD) for ELAR when classroom teachers grew concerned about the lack of explicitness, grade-level specificity, and measurability in the TEKS. As a volunteer, she worked closely with the Texas State Board of Education members and the Texas Education Agency to write new ELAR standards that were adopted in May 2008. She was named as an Upton Sinclair Award Winner in Education for 2013, and is also an Education Policy Commentator for EducationViews.org. Donna spends a a lot of time researching and writing about political, social, and educational issues. Her articles, interviews, and podcasts are published widely across the Internet. Donna is married and has two adult sons. She is actively involved in her church, in her community and state affairs.

Donna earned a Bachelor of Accountancy (cum laude) from the California State University San Marcos. She has worked in accounting, auditing and management roles with major companies such as Ernst & Young and Marriott International in the private sector before serving in the public sector as a deputy controller for the Export-Import Bank of the United States. She is a member of the National Association of Black Accountants. Prior to her career in accounting, Donna was a political operative in the state of Arkansas. She worked on the successful campaigns of Governor Mike Huckabee, Senator Tim Hutchinson and Representative (now Governor) Asa Hutchinson. She was active in campaign recruiting and communications. She played a vital role during the Huckabee governorship in recruiting black candidates for executive-appointed boards and commissions in addition to helping create job-training programs at a local community college and the Arkansas Office of Workforce Development. She is a former board member of the Little Rock Minority Disability Advisory Network and a former member of the Crittenden County (Arkansas) Workforce Development Planning Committee. She was also a contributor to the Ernst & Young Diversity Think Tank. Donna originally sought a role in the church. She is a former divinity graduate of Charles H. Mason Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee. It was there that she was taught the gift of administration as a vital part of the Christian ministry. Donna is a firm believer in free markets and entrepreneurship, rather than government, as a means of lifting people out of poverty.
