Passing On The Faith
The Institute for Family Studies recently released a new report that examined how Christian parents most effectively pass their faith on to their children. The report pulled from data on Americans aged 25-plus who were raised in Christian homes.
Consider
The findings in the study reveal that family is the most important factor in determining whether Christian kids will retain their faith into adulthood. Indicators that a child is likely to keep the faith include frequent involvement in church with both parents, high-quality relationships with parents, strong marriage relationships between their parents, and seeing faith modeled in everyday life by their parents.
One of the points highlighted in the study was that while including traditional faith practices in daily routines (such as reading the Bible and praying before meals) is important, what matters even more is parents frequently embedding faith into conversations with kids. It reminds me of how God says to teach his commandments in Deuteronomy 6:7: “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
Christian parents today need prayer. The culture doesn’t reinforce our faith anymore. If we want to pass biblical truth along to our children, we have to be more intentional than ever.
Pray
Please pray the following prayer along with me:
Dear God,
Please open the eyes of Christian parents in America, so that they understand the importance of integrating Your truth into every facet of life with their children.
Encourage parents as they endure long days, difficult seasons, and cultural backlash; help them to stand strong on Your Word and set examples of faithfulness for their children.
Provide support through churches, ministries, and other believers. Help mothers and fathers who feel isolated find godly communities and meaningful support.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
Act
