If you follow headlines about artificial intelligence (AI), you’ll understand how hard it is to keep up with news about this rapidly developing technology. But as Christians we should be more concerned with applying a biblical worldview to this powerful force.

Consider

The company Anthropic claimed recently that it had created an AI product so powerful, it couldn’t be released to the public until proper safeguards were put in place to prevent global-scale hacking and disruption. Other concerns about AI include its potentially negative impact on employment, education, children’s privacy, and more. 
The Trump administration, meanwhile, has been bullish on AI development, insisting that America must win the AI “arms race” with China. To add to the confusion, representatives of various religions, including Christianity, are attempting to bend AI to their purposes. One company has even advertised an AI-generated “Jesus” chatbot to supposedly aid people in prayer. 
The possibilities and problems generated by AI’s presence in our culture are many, and they’re often puzzling, raising questions we may not have asked before. That’s why we must ask God for wisdom and discernment to apply biblical truth in a new era of technological development.

Pray

Please pray the following prayer along with me:

Dear God,

Thank You that Your Word offers eternal wisdom and truth that we can apply to modern life. Remind us to seek Your guidance in everything we do.
Raise up trustworthy Christian thinkers who can equip the church to disciple well in the age of AI, and who can help the church understand new technologies with clarity. 
Prepare our hearts to trust in You and be ready for challenges, like job loss, that many in our church congregations may face in the future due to AI. 
As the world around us struggles to value human life, help us to be shining examples of what it means to bear Your Image.
In Jesus’ Name, 
Amen.
